My work focuses on the literature of the long-nineteenth century, with particular interests in the politics of the novel form, questions of subjectivity and community, and critical theory approaches. My first book, Byronism, Napoleonism and Nineteenth-Century Realism: Heroes of Their Own Lives? (forthcoming with Routledge) describes the production of a 鈥榟eroic鈥� bourgeois subjectivity in the novel, under the distinctly unheroic conditions of high capitalism, derived from Byronic and Napoleonic models. My current research considers the relationships between political violence, terrorism, and community after the French Revolution in the nineteenth-century novel.聽
