Overview

Safeguarding, risk management and evaluation for healthcare improvement in learning disability nursing. Communication of complex care issues to people with learning disabilities, their family and carers with regards to consent in the context of legal and ethical requirements, legal and ethical issues including the application of the Equality Act and the Human Rights Act as well as the Mental Capacity Act and Mental health Act and its application to people with a learning disability
Clinical management of complexity as applied to a range of learning disability health care settings Understanding complex health needs in relation to people with a learning disability in relation to: behaviour that challenges mental health and learning disability, profound and multiple learning disability, forensic issues and people with a learning disability, epilepsy, autism.
Inter professional practice in relation to complex care including case coordination and multi agency (including the Third Sector) working in relation to supporting people with a learning disability. . Positive Behaviour Support and adapted therapeutic interventions for people with a learning disability Enhancing the patient experience, Acknowledging language, spiritual & cultural needs of people with learning disabilities and their families

Assessment Strategy

-threshold -Grades: D- to D+ Understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module and the outcomes being assessed. Students will be required to achieve a minimum of D- grade in the assignment to in order to pass

• Critically apply the evidence base relating to the psychological, sociological and complex interventions used to improve the wellbeing of people with complex problems in learning disability nursing.

• Critically consider and apply a range of legal and ethical issues related to quality improvement in complex care management in learning disability nursing.

• Critically examine and debate the policies, principles and risk management issues informing the delivery of complex patient care in learning disability nursing.

• Demonstrate critical awareness of leadership and management in learning disability nursing
