Overview

The aim of this module is to develop and enhance students' knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology essential for development of advanced clinical practice and decision-making and prescribing skills required for evidence-based practice. This module is relevant for a diverse and flexible multi-professional workforce and should appeal to all registered professions undertaking an advanced practice role.

Surface anatomy, cell biology, homeostasis and fluid compartments.

Normal physiological function of the cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, gastro-intestinal, nervous and endocrine systems and their role in homeostasis.

Adaptation, tissue responses and the major pathological processes. Pathophysiology of important diseases affecting the cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, gastro-intestinal, nervous and endocrine systems.

Assessment Strategy

-threshold -(C) To achieve a ‘pass’ on the module’ the student will be required to demonstrate some knowledge of anatomy and underlying physiological and pathological processes. -good -(B)To achieve a ‘good pass’ the student will be required to demonstrate good knowledge of anatomy and underlying physiological and pathological processes. -excellent -(A) To achieve an excellent pass, the student will be required to demonstrate a high level of knowledge of anatomy and physiological and pathological processes.

Learning Outcomes

• Critically evaluate knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology and basic disease principles which might affect the human body across the life course.

• Demonstrate application of knowledge and understanding of organ system function and be able to predict compensatory changes.

• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology across the life course to inform advanced decision making related to clinical care.
