Research in conservation reflects the interdisciplinary nature of the subject with projects spanning the natural and social sciences and the science-policy interface. One programme of research is focussed on developing methods of evaluating effectiveness of conservation actions through evidence synthesis to inform conservation policy and practice. The Centre for Evidence-Based Conservation conducts systematic reviews of evidence commissioned by a wide range of governmental and non-governmental organisations as well as developing innovative methods of knowledge exchange on conservation effectiveness. A second programme researches how people interact with natural resources including the role of traditional taboos and institutions in natural resource management, how incentives can be best designed to maintain ecosystem services, bushmeat hunting, community-based fisheries management, and payments for ecosystem services.
