Bangor Alumna wins Gold at RHS Show
A BSc Hons Agricultural Botany alumna recently took part in the Royal Horticultural Society Flower Show at BBC Gardeners鈥 World live and won a Gold Medal.
Lisa Niemy entered the 鈥楤eautiful Borders 2015鈥 category with her 鈥楩orge Ahead鈥 creation. The theme for this year鈥檚 borders was 鈥業ndustrial Heritage of the West Midlands鈥 which captured the imaginations of the designers, leading to strong use of materials, clever planting schemes and inspired use of colour palette.
During the period of massive industrial development in the West Midlands between 1730 and early 1900, a number of poets described the noise and heat of the fires and furnaces which produced machinery, agricultural tools, ironwork and jewellery.
Lisa鈥檚 planting reflected the volcanic energy and drama of the forges, whilst the blacksmith's anvil, tools and coal illustrate the important role these items played in developing the legacy of the West Midlands.
Originally from The Isle of Man, Lisa graduated from Bangor in 1982 and now runs a successful garden design company, , based in Bramley, Surrey.
Lisa said: 鈥淚t felt ecstatic to win an RHS Gold Medal having watched Gardeners World, and been to Tatton, Chelsea, Malvern and Hampton Court Shows. Whilst a student at Bangor, I never imagined that one day I鈥檇 receive such a coveted award. I'm very proud to tell people I went to 麻豆传媒高清版, it's a bit off the beaten track, but I had THE BEST time there!鈥
