A Welsh Language Hackfest at 麻豆传媒高清版
Some 80 technology and Welsh language enthusiasts and developers will converge on 麻豆传媒高清版鈥檚 Management Centre this weekend for the fifth Hacio鈥檙 Iaith day event , sponsored by the University鈥檚 Canolfan Bedwyr and TILT project.
Hacio鈥檙 Iaith is a community of professionals and enthusiasts who enjoy exploring the relationship between the Welsh language and technology and developing ideas on how the language can take full advantage of the possibilities that technology can offer.
Saturday鈥檚 day-long event will offer people who are involved in web and technology projects an unique opportunity to present their ideas in Welsh and learn from others who are involved in the area of language technologies.
Loosely based on the informal nature of BarCamp unconferences, the event actively encourages participation and offers attendees the opportunity to showcase their projects or give brief presentations on subjects of their choice.
"Hacio'r Iaith is an event that requires everyone to partake in its activities. There is a specific emphasis this year on practical workshops. We are certain to discover new ideas and technological possibilities for the Welsh language and there will be numerous opportunities to discuss new developments with friends old and new鈥 said Carl Morris, one of the event鈥檚 coordinators.
Dr Llion Jones, the Director of Canolfan Bedwyr, commented 鈥淎s a centre that places a great emphasis on developing and utilising technology to promote the use of the Welsh language, we are proud of the opportunity to welcome the Hacio鈥檙 Iaith event to 麻豆传媒高清版. Amongst the work to be showcased during the event will be new translation tools developed by members of our own Language Technologies Unit. The opportunity for developers to receive the input of others who are interested in the same areas cannot be undervalued.鈥
