The Development and Alumni Relations Office runs the Bangor Fund Telethons every spring and autumn, spanning four weeks on Sunday through Thursday evenings.

During the campaign, our student calling team reaches out to alumni to connect, reminisce about their favourite memories, and support their alma mater.

As part of the alumni community, you may get a phone call from one of our students to talk about your time in Bangor and about the Bangor Fund.

The Bangor Fund aims to support as many projects as possible that add a margin of excellence or an element of ‘additionality’ to the student experience.

Our team of students have recently completed our spring telethon campaign with great results. Our wonderful alumni have pledged to give a further £68,000 to the Bangor Fund over the next five years. These gifts will allow The Bangor Fund to provide extra bursaries, field trips, well-being activities, sports opportunities, and services, which all make a tremendous difference!

Persida Chung, Development Officer, said, “This year, as the University marks its 140th anniversary, our focus will be on creating a range of 140th Anniversary Scholarships. These scholarships aim to ensure that students from all financial backgrounds can pursue their studies at Bangor. Our goal is to support a new generation of Bangor students through this initiative."Ìý Ìý Ìý

A few examples of initiatives supported by the Bangor Fund this academic year include:

• Bangor Sport: Acquisition of portable shelters to be used by student and community sports clubs

• School of Computer Science and Engineering: Contribution towards Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ Innovation Leadership Training (BUILT) prizes

• Students’ Union: Provision of student group and student leaders well-being activities

• School of Ocean Sciences: Reconstruction of the wave prediction machine designed by Bangor alumnus, Jack Darbyshire

• School of Environmental and Natural Sciences: Bursaries for forestry students to travel to Germany

• School of Environmental and Natural Sciences: Anatomical models for zoology students

• Students’ Union: The Boat Club’s acquisition of two new rowing boats

• School of Ocean Sciences: Aquarium projectÌý

• Archives and Special Collections: Safeguarding Architectural History project

• School of Arts, Culture, and Languages: Contribution towards the production of the book Cofion: Life of John Ellis

• School of Arts, Culture, and Languages: Shaping of Local and National Identity in Wales project

• Department of Music, Drama and Performance: Composition workshops with Sinfonia Cymru and Ensemble Canolfan Gerdd Williams Mathias

• School of Ocean Sciences: Rocks of Wildlife:Ìýbilingual display board for the School’s public events
