Security Advice for Students and Staff
Generally we live and work in a relatively safe environment. However, it is still very important that you are aware of the potential for crime and that you take account of this with regard to your personal safety and safeguarding your belongings.聽 Here are a few tips:
- Be aware of your environment and surroundings
- Keep to public routes and avoid walking alone either after dark or in secluded or isolated areas
- Carry a personal safety alarm
- Be aware of drink spiking and never leave your drink unattended
- Lock your bedroom or office when you are not there
- Never leave your belongings unattended in meeting rooms, lecture theatres, laboratories, libraries or any communal areas
- Mark your property
- Lock or secure bicycles and postcode them
- Park your car in well-lit areas, keep your valuables out of sight and ensure the car is locked when you leave it
- Use lockers when at sports venues and do not take valuables along with you
