1910-1919 Fraser Story was educated at Edinburgh where he won several medals. He was appointed Assistant Lecturer in 1904 and Professor of Forestry in 1910.

1992-1998 W.B. (Bart) Banks Initiailly trained as a Chemist, and between 1964 and 1977 was a Scientist in the Forest Products Research Laboratory. He obtained a PhD from Imperial College London and joined Bangor in 1977.

1943-1947 Thomas Thomson
Read Chemistry at Bangor in 1909 and later studied under Story. In 1912 he was appointed Assistant Lecturer, and in 1943 promoted to Professor before retiring in 1947.

1995-2011 Colin Price was educated at Oxford and awards a BA in Forestry in 1970. In 1975 he obtained his DPhil He joined the department in 1976 and was awarded a Personal Chair of Environmental and Forest Economics in 1995.

1947-1967 Eric Mobbs was appointed Chair of Forestry from 1st October 1947. Mobbs graduated in Botany at Cambridge and London. In 1965 he was awarded a CBE and made a Chevalier du Merite Agricole for his long association with forestry in France.

1998-2011 Douglas Godbold Obtained a BSc (Hons) in Biology from Sussex, and PhD from Liverpool in 1983. Godbold was appointed Chair of Forest Sciences in 1998. He currently holds the positions of Professor of Forest Ecology, and Head of Department at BOKU, Vienna.

1967-1974 Denis Richardson a former Royal Marine Commando, read politics and economics at Oxford, followed by Forestry after the war. He obtained his PhD in tree physiology in Holland.

2012-current John Healey obtained a BA in Botany from Oxford, and PhD in Tropical Forest Science from Cambridge. He joined the department as Lecturer in Tropical Forestry in 1988.

1975-1992 Laurence Roche obtained his first degree in Forestry from Trinity College Dublin. He then studied for his MSc and PhD at the University of British Columbia, Canada. Roche worked for the Canadian Forest Service and in Nigeria before his appointment in 1975.

2014-current Morag McDonald obtained a BSc in Agriculture and Environmental Sciences from Newcastle University and a PhD in Silviculture from Edinburgh University. She worked for the Faculty of Forestry at the University of British Columbia, Canada and was appointed lecturer in Bangor in 2001, and awarded a personal chair in 2014.
