Antisemitism
In October 2020, Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ's Executive Committee adopted the in full, along with the clarifications recommended by the in 2016 to protect freedom of speech.
The IHRA definition is a useful tool for understanding how antisemitism manifests itself in our society. It will be used as a test to establish whether behaviour that is in breach of the University’s rules is antisemitic.
The University remains committed to the general duties of the Equality Act 2010 which are to:
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisationin all forms.
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
- Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
Antisemitism awareness training to support managers has been incorporated into the half day ‘Equality for Managers’ workshop.
The adoption of this definition does not in any way affect the University's commitment to freedom of thought and expression, as stated in the University's Code of Practice on Freedom of Speech.
