About This Course
This Engineering BEng will prepare you for a career as a professional engineer at the forefront of high-tech industry, in both technical and managerial roles.
You will gain extensive practical experience and skills, as well as a thorough theoretical knowledge. You can choose to add a placement year to gain additional, relevant experience.
This course allows you to keep your options open while equipping you with all the analytical, design, programming and computing skills required for an exciting engineering career.
The first year provides a broad curriculum and your final two years will see you focus on areas aligned to the School's research interests.

Course Content
You will be taught using a rich mix of learning situations such as lectures, seminars, tutorials and lab work. You will work as part of a group, work on your own, and undertake employment-based learning.
Your progress will be assessed in a number of ways such as: unseen examination, essay/coursework, class test, report, laboratory practical, presentation, portfolio.

The first two years provide a broad and common fundamental curriculum, while more specialised options in Years 3 and 4 allow you to follow optional modules leading to a professional discipline.

Facilities
- You will have access to high quality facilities - digital design and manufacturing are an important part of our engineering provision and these will be supported by our well-equipped computing labs and their cutting edge design and modelling software.
- You can manufacture components and machines using our workshops, gaining experience with emerging technologies such as additive layer manufacture.
- During Year 3 you will be embedded into Bangor's research groups for your individual and group projects allowing you to use the specialised equipment which includes mechanical testing equipment, chemical labs, glove boxes and the larger fluid mechanics rigs housed at MSparc, the University's Science Park.
Engineering facilities
- Large fully equipped computing laboratories and all the latest software.Â
- A recently installed immersive technologies laboratory, where the latest devices are used for project and research work. Â
- A recently installed large networking laboratory to provide students with the opportunity to design and administer networks and for the teaching of computer architecture modules.
- A large undergraduate teaching laboratory, full of industry standard equipment.
- This is where you will undertake practical sessions put into practice what you have learned in your lectures.Â
- A class 1000 clean room which all undergraduate students will experience during their studies. This will give you unique training in clean room protocols which is invaluable experience when you are looking for jobs after your degree.

General University Costs
Home (UK) students
- The cost of a full-time undergraduate course is £9,250 per year (2025/26).
- The fee for all integrated study abroad years is  £1,385 (2025/26).
- The fee for an integrated year in industry as part of a sandwich programme is £1,850 (2025/26).

Additional Costs
There are also some common additional costs that are likely to arise for students on all courses, for example:
- If you choose to study abroad or take the International Experience Year as part of your course.
- If you attend your Graduation Ceremony, there will be a cost for gown hire (£25-£75) and cost for additional guest tickets (c.£12 each).
Course-specific additional costs
Depending on the course you are studying, there may be additional course-specific costs that you will be required to meet. These fall into three categories:
- Mandatory Costs: these are related to a particular core or compulsory module that you’ll be required to complete to achieve your qualification e.g. compulsory field trips, uniforms for students on placement, DBS Check.
- Necessarily Incurred Costs: these may not be experienced by all students, and will vary depending on the course e.g. professional body membership, travel to placements, specialist software, personal safety equipment.
- Optional Costs: these depend on your choice of modules or activity and they are shown to give you an indication of the optional costs that may arise to make sure your choice is as informed as possible. These can include graduation events for your course, optional field trips, Welcome Week trips.

GCSE: grade B/5 in Maths, higher tier (if Level 3 qualification does not include Maths or Science study).
Offers are tariff based, 112-128 tariff points from a Level 3 qualification incl.:
- A-levels: Including a minimum grade C in Maths and a minimum grade C in Physics (we may also consider Electronics or another science in lieu of Physics. General Studies and Key Skills not normally accepted)*
- BTEC National Extended Diploma in Engineering *: DMM-DDM
- Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma in Engineering*: DMM-DDM
- City & Guilds Advanced Technical Extended Diploma (1080) in Engineering*: DMM - DDM
- International Baccalaureate Diploma: Including H5 in Maths and Physics*
- Welsh Baccalaureate is accepted
- Access: considered on a case-by-case basis

International Candidates: school leaving qualifications that are equivalent to A levels/Level 3 and/or college diplomas are accepted from countries worldwide (subject to minimum English Language requirements).
*Level 3 qualifications in the following subjects will be considered for this course providing there is sufficient mathematics content: Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Aeronautical Engineering. Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ offers International Incorporated Bachelor Degrees for International students whose High School qualification is not equivalent to the UK school leaving qualification. The first year (or Year 0) is studied at Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ International College, an embedded College on our University campus and delivered by Oxford International Education Group.
Careers
The broad scope of this degree prepares you for a wide range of careers. We will give you a firm grounding in the fundamental aspects of mechanical engineering, materials science, thermodynamics, heat-transfer, electronics and computer science. The promotion of meta cognitive learning throughout this programme means that you will be able to draw on your deep knowledge of each discipline to provide creative solutions in a broad range of engineering careers.
A key aim of this degree is to produce high quality mechanical and materials engineers able to take on posts typical of these fields such as design engineer, automotive engineer, metallurgist, manufacturing engineer and process engineer. In addition, the degree emphasises the application of contemporary digital approaches to the core engineering disciplines. This degree produces graduates who are proficient in simulation and modelling. They are also adept at data collection, manipulation and analysis. These digital skills mean that careers in control and instrumentation, data-science, IT and software development are all possible destinations following graduation. Energy and low carbon engineering are cross cutting themes during the degree meaning that graduates are environmentally and socially aware. This degree also prepares you for careers in the rapidly expanding low-carbon sector. You will also be well equipped with the skills required by research careers in either academia.
Throughout the degree we offer training to prepare you for your professional practice. This includes courses on project planning, advice on CV creation, interview practice and career planning. You will also undertake individual and group projects in the third and fourth years requiring time management, project documentation and collaborative working. The final year also includes seminars delivered by successful engineers to show the breadth and diversity of engineering careers, allowing students to steer their careers more effectively.
