MSc in Neuroimaging
Our course is one of only a few taught programmes dealing with modern neuroimaging in the UK. It is exceptional in its focus on practical and biomedical aspects of Neuroimaging.

The course is designed to provide students with the background knowledge and technical skills to design, analyse and evaluate imaging data. The course focuses on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) based techniques, including functional MRI, anatomical imaging, Diffusion Tensor Imaging, and Spectroscopy and advanced data analyses (e.g. Multivariate Voxel Pattern Analysis). Imaging techniques will be discussed with reference to relevant applications. The programme puts a strong emphasis on practical skills. In a dedicated computer lab, the students will learn and practice analysis and imaging techniques. Under supervision of our world-class academic staff, students will design their own imaging based studies, which will be run using the in-house 3T MRI scanner. Additional classes will provide students with a broad scope of professional skills.
鈥淭he fact that the course gives you hands on experience in the scanner during your project is so valuable and puts you at a little advantage for applying for PhDs etc in your next step in your career. We've learnt all of the background in how imaging works and had a practical module to learn how to design fMRI experiments using MatLab and other software for analysing fMRI data. Added to this we have the freedom to choose taught modules that we are interested in away from the imaging focus, based more in neuropsychology. PhD
The PhD is the highest academic qualification available. A PhD degree is designed to provide strong grounding in highly specialised areas through research. Its goal is to enable students to be researchers in psychology, contributing to academic knowledge and developing work of internationally publishable quality.
Bangor Imaging Unit supports psychology PhD students with training and technical support, enabling them to become independent scanner operators. All imaging project designs are discussed at meetings of the BIU, where several members of staff offer guidance and suggestions to the student and their supervisor. This extremely collaborative environment enables students to learn methodologies completely and efficiently.

Neither myself nor my supervisor had carried out neuroimaging research previously, but BIU colleagues assisted us when designing our paradigms and beginning data collection/analysis.
