Overview
I am focused on exploring microplastic pollution in freshwater ecosystems as part of my PhD research, funded by the NERC RED-ALERT CDT studentship. My work will investigate the sources and pathways of microplastics in river sub-catchments, examining both diffuse and point sources that contribute to this significant environmental issue. This project seeks to explore how seasonal and hydrological variations affect the mobility of microplastics and pathogens, as well as the contamination risks associated with extreme weather conditions.
Through this research, I aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of the ecological impacts of microplastics and inform strategies for pollution mitigation, ultimately promoting sustainable practices that protect the health of freshwater ecosystems.
