Why BangorÂ
Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ has a good reputation in the field of psychology and it is dedicated to its academic excellence. Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ also offers the course of Masters in Clinical Neuropsychology, which is seldom offered in other British universities. The picturesque environment and affordable living expenses in the city of Bangor are also some of the important considerations that I factored in while choosing a university.
As a psychology alumni, how did you feel about studying Psychology at Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ and how do you believe the experience has enhanced your ongoing career?  Â
It was a great eye opener. The courses in Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ enabled me to build a solid foundation and understanding in the field of Psychology, specifically Clinical Neuropsychology. I also took electives such as research techniques that covered technologies such as EEG and fMRI, and these enhanced my concept of research, which will be very helpful in my future career to be a good researcher/ instructor in the higher education field.
Besides, there are various volunteering programs offered in Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ, in collaboration with the community around Bangor. Participating in these projects allowed me to give back to the society and also equipped me with various soft skills.
Accommodation Â
Yes, I stayed at St. Mary's Village.
Clubs and Societies
I participated in various activities organized by different clubs and societies, ranging from the Malaysian Society, R Society, London Society, International Students Society and the Pakistani Society. I also volunteered at the LEAPS program and Ysbyty Gwynedd hospital.
Support from the UniversityÂ
Yes, I participated in some career workshops offered by the Bangor Employability Services and they also offer free CV checking services which I found helpful. There were also many trips and events organized by the International Office which made my studying aboard experience unforgettable. I would like to commend them for the friendly staff and great services provided to the international students.
What was the best thing about your course
Lecturers who are friendly, helpful, and leading experts in their respective fields, supportive administrative staff from various departments, and awesome course mates.
Did you have a lecturer who you particularly remember (and why)?  Â
Actually I remembered all of them:
Dr. David Carey, Professor Oliver Turnbull, Dr. Rudi Coetzer – Awesome instructors who taught the neuropsychology subject. I also remembered the brain workshop dedicated to this subject, where I experienced touching a real human brain for the first time in my life.
Dr. Giovanni D’Avossa – He was my dissertation supervisor, supported me in my dissertation journey, discussed our topic together as a team, and provided valuable feedback for me to improve my skills.
Dr. Ciara Egan – Taught the module for EEG. She was a very supportive lecturer, provided many extra readings that helped me to further understand the topics, and responded to students’ emails in a timely manner whenever we encountered any issues in the subject.
Dr. Vivek Thuppil – Taught the advanced research methods (statistics) subject. He was able to convey statistical concepts to the students efficiently, and always checked with the students’ understanding of the concepts via mini games by utilizing Socrates. He was a dedicated lecturer who even utilize his own expenses to reward the team that accumulated the most scores with mini gifts.
Dr. Paul Mullins – Taught the fMRI module. Together with Matt Rogan who assisted Dr. Mullins, they delivered the subject and provided a good understanding of the fMRI knowledge. Always going around in the class during the lab sessions and provided immediate help whenever we encountered any issues.
Professor Debbie Mills & Dr. Kami Koldewyn – Taught the Bio Bases module. Provided many insights towards the biological aspects of different disorders. Both lecturers are awesome in teaching and conveying the subject.
Dr Marcel Clusa – He is the international student support officer and taught the Spanish language subject. The Spanish language class is very fun and interactive, with many learning activities incorporated into the lessons. Also, provided a lot of help to the international students whenever we have any problems.
Dr. Azlina Amir Kassim & Dr. Vivek Thuppil – I remembered there was one moment where we met in the grocery store...thank you for offering a lift to my accommodation on that day!
Are you still in touch with any of the friends you made at Bangor?  Â
Yes, although some of my friends are located in different parts of the world, we still manage to get in touch occasionally.
What did you go on to do after completing your course?  Â
I managed to get a teaching job in a university. As mentioned previously, the subjects offered in Bangor built a solid foundation of knowledge in me, and I managed to impress the faculty team to recruit me as one of their teaching staff.
What would you say to prospective students considering Bangor for their studies?
Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æing in Bangor is one of the best decision that I have made in my life. This experience is unforgettable and I will always cherish the memories that I had in Bangor.
