Why Bangor

Bangor is a great place to study ocean sciences as the university offers a variety of courses, and I was able to pick a course that suited my interests. I was really drawn to its location as well – a quiet, scenic and peaceful place.

The International Mentor Scheme

I understand what it’s like being an international student and all the struggles that come with it. Hence, I would like to help new international students settle in and feel welcome at Bangor.

What is the most difficult thing about being an International Student

The hardest part was being away from my support system and not being able to travel home as much as I would have liked.

The Course

Marine Biology is a really interesting course that combines the study of marine organisms, the ocean environment and how these two interact. We are also able to get a lot of hands on experience in the field which is the best part of the course.

The Lecturers

The lecturers are all very helpful, passionate and extremely knowledgeable. They are always happy to have more in depth chats regarding the course content as well.

Clubs and Societies

I am a member of the Endeavour Society. They have weekly talks with guest speakers from around the UK, and they talk about the projects they are working on in the ocean sciences space. I am also a member of St John Ambulance where we learn and train to be first aiders, and even volunteer at local events.

Bangor and the area

Bangor is a small town and lot of essential things are within walking distance like the main university buildings, student accommodation, the gym and grocery stores. As for activities, there are many clubs, societies and volunteering opportunities at Bangor to get involved with.

Support from the university

The support for international students is really great. Before I arrived at Bangor, I had a million questions and the university was able to provide lots of information and advice. I recommend reaching out to the staff if you ever have any issues or even just to have a friendly chat.

Advice for new international students

Try out as many clubs and societies as you can at Bangor as there are some really interesting ones out there, and get involved with university events where you can meet like minded people. I would also recommend just walking around and exploring the area as there are some amazing views here.

The future

As of now I am just focusing on finishing my degree, and I am optimistic and open to whatever the future holds.
