I can remember writing my study abroad application thinking that my piece of paper would never be noticed amongst the hundreds who apply every year. Yet, here I am, a year on, writing about my experiences of living, studying, working and travelling around Australia. What a journey it has been!
Why I went
As a writer, a lot of my working time is spent indoors. However, it is important to fuel the imagination that flows into the keys on a keyboard or through the ink of a pen. Material that can only be created from experiencing life. It was one of the main reasons that I chose to study abroad. I wanted to experience a different life away from the UK whilst still pursuing my study of writing.
The University of Canberra was my first choice. There are so many amazing places to choose from in 麻豆传媒高清版鈥檚 International Exchange Programme. I would urge anyone to go for a place that calls to you; and with the oldest creative writing programme in Australia, The University of Canberra captured my intrigue from very early on.
What I gained
Australia as a destination offered so much adventure. When I wasn鈥檛 studying or working, I had trips away with friends from the university. We explored the city life in Sydney together and swam the Great Barrier Reef in Cairns. I even met up with some of my friends from Bangor who were backpacking and together we drove fifteen hours on The Great Ocean Road. I saw family I hadn鈥檛 seen since 1999 and spent Christmas in New Zealand.
