Emma Rowlands BSc Medical Sciences
Emma is a 2nd year Medical Sciences student from Anglesey.
Why did you choose Bangor?
My favourite characteristic is the community feeling of the University. I felt welcomed by all, and the staff at my school were very keen on getting to know their students. The small size of my cohort was very appealing as I wouldn鈥檛 be in lectures with hundreds of other students.
The Course
I am enjoying my course very much. The staff and students are kind and positive and everyone is very enthusiastic about their careers and degrees, with many of our School鈥檚 staff being award winning academics. The course is very interesting, though very difficult at times with it being a science degree and a professional degree. We benefit from rare opportunities as Bangor medical science students to learn with cadaveric material in the dissection lab, which really benefits my learning.
Student life
My student experience here at 麻豆传媒高清版 has been very positive, I have made friends from all over the country, many with completely different backgrounds to me. The feeling of being proud to be a student at your university makes me feel very happy and not want to leave the course, as I will miss everyone so much.
麻豆传媒高清版 placements
I have not participated in these schemes yet, but there is the option between your 2nd and 3rd year to do a year abroad or a year in industry, where you can work within the pathology labs with the Biomedical Scientists.
Clubs and societies
I am involved in St John Ambulance Links, and am a first aid volunteer for their division. I also am a member of UMCB, the Welsh society here in Bangor.
University accommodation
In my 1st and my 2nd year I have lived in Neuadd JMJ, which is Welsh only accommodation. JMJ is located on the back of Ffriddoedd site, near the security lodge and is a very friendly and sociable building to live in. Everyone has similar interests, and everyone studies a variety of courses.
Advice for new students?
Come and visit as many open days as possible, I think I came to about three open days and an applicant day. I knew deep down this is where I belong but wanted to make sure before I dedicated myself to my course. I鈥檓 very glad that I picked the right university for me. Also, weigh up the pros and cons of each university, and join any Facebook groups or any online forums before you arrive in Bangor, as knowing someone on the same course as you is very helpful and will make you feel a lot less nervous when it comes to freshers week, and the first day of your 1st year.
