Ellis Vaughan Cymraeg/German
Hel么, Ellis dw i ac dw i鈥檔 fyfyriwr pedwaredd flwyddyn yn astudio Cymraeg ac Almaeneg. Yn ystod fy mlwyddyn dramor mi dreuliais i un ar ddeg mis yn Fienna, prifddinas Awstria, lle wnes i astudio yn y brifysgol yno. Roedd y flwyddyn dramor yn holl bwysig imi o ran y ffrindiau wnes i gyfarfod, y sgiliau wnes i ddatblygu a鈥檙 atgofion sydd gen i.
Bu raid imi deithio i Fienna heb unrhyw lety pendant o achos y pandemig ac felly roedd raid imi ddysgu i fod yn hyblyg ac i ddelio 芒 phethau wrth iddyn nhw godi. Roedd hefyd yn gyfle anhygoel i estyn fy hun yn academaidd trwy ddilyn modiwlau sydd ddim yn rhan o fy ngradd ym Mangor fel Portiwgaleg, Catalaneg ac Archeoleg Geltaidd.
Diolch i鈥檙 flwyddyn dramor dw i llawer mwy hyderus yn siarad Almaeneg, a thrwy byw mewn gwlad lle mae鈥檙 iaith yn cael ei siarad, dach chi鈥檔 cael y cyfle i ehangu eich gallu mewn ffyrdd sydd ddim yn bosib unrhyw le arall. Mae bob taith i鈥檙 siopau yn gyfle i ddysgu geirfa newydd, ac mae鈥檙 flwyddyn yn helpu i sefydlogi鈥檙 hyn dach chi鈥檔 gwybod yn barod.
Erbyn hyn mae Fienna yn teimlo fatha ail gartref imi, ac ar 么l graddio dw i鈥檔 bwriadu mynd yn 么l yno i fyw. Fel rhywun o鈥檙 cefn gwlad, roedd Fienna yn ddinas berffaith imi, mae yno lawer o barciau prydferth ac mae鈥檙 lle yn teimlo鈥檔 croesawgar a chartrefol dros ben.
Mae fy mlwyddyn dramor yn cynnwys rhai o fy hoff atgofion, a byswn i鈥檔 annog pawb i gymryd y cyfle i fyw dramor os gallan nhw. Mae鈥檔 siawns anhygoel i ddod i nabod diwylliant, pobl a gwlad newydd, a thrwy ei wneud fel rhan o鈥檆h gradd, efallai byddwch chi鈥檔 manteisio ar gyfle na fysach chi鈥檔 ei gymryd fel arall.

Hello, I鈥檓 Ellis and I鈥檓 a fourth year student studying Welsh and German. During my year abroad I spent eleven months in Vienna, the capital of Austria, where I studied at the university. The year abroad was hugely important to me due to the friends I made, the skills I developed and the memories I have.
I had to travel to Vienna without any definite accommodation due to the pandemic and so I had to learn to be flexible and to deal with things as they came up. It was also an amazing experience to push myself academically by following modules that weren鈥檛 part of my degree in Bangor, like Portuguese, Catalan and Celtic Archaeology.
Thanks to the year abroad I鈥檓 much more confident in speaking German, and by living in a country where the language is spoken, you get the chance to grow your ability in ways that aren鈥檛 possible anywhere else. Each trip to the shops is a chance to learn new vocabulary, and the year helps you to consolidate what you already know.
By now Vienna feels like a second home to me, and I hope to move back there after graduation. As someone from the countryside, Vienna was the perfect city for me, there are lots of beautiful parks and it feels like an extremely welcoming and homely place.
Some of my favourite memories come from my year abroad, and I would encourage everyone to take the chance to live abroad if they can. It鈥檚 an amazing opportunity to learn about a new culture, people and county, and by doing it as part of your degree you might be taking an opportunity that you otherwise never would.
