I undertook the three year Forestry by Distance Learning (DL) MSc at Bangor to draw together various threads of a working life and to bring them to bear on Forest Landscape Restoration projects.
During the course, and with colleagues bringing together requisite skills, I established LEIFF, which channels private investment into FLR to build resilience via Livelihoods and Biodiversity conservation. We have projects in Paraguay, Romania and West Africa, working to ensure that Carbon funding is channelled to deliver appropriate outcomes.
Years working as a farmer, forestry contractor and timber builder on three continents gives me a practical grounding, whilst the comprehensive 聽and rigorous nature of the聽Forestry by Distance Learning (DL) MSc聽at Bangor聽adds the academic discipline to research and communicate project design.
Forestry has been a lifelong fascination for me, the scope and relevance of which seems to be accelerating. My Bangor MSc gives me confidence to take on complex forest management tasks, knowing that the full complexity of each can at least be considered.
I can say without reservation that the Forestry by Distance Learning (DL) MSc at Bangor is the equal of any institution with which I have encountered in a diverse working life. It presents a vast and dynamic subject in a rigorous but manageable way which gives me the confidence to operate in a field which has so much to offer and even more to deliver. A heartfelt thanks to all the staff, and very best wishes to my fellow students as they embark on their postgraduate careers.聽
