Cameron Arkle Psychology
Cameron Arkle from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, is in his second year, studying for a BSc in Psychology.
Why did you choose Bangor?
The modules offered on my course were the most interesting and diverse I鈥檇 seen from any Psychology course at any university in the UK. Bangor also has a fantastic location; being beside the mountains of Snowdonia, the island of Anglesey and the North Wales coast.
The course
The best thing about the course is the ability to choose what topic you will research and write about in many assignments. Furthermore, the range of module choices to study.
Lecturers within the school of psychology are passionate, thoughtful and approachable. You can always rely on them to help you with questions in lectures or concerns about assignments.
Did you come to Bangor through Clearing?
The Clearing process was very straightforward. All I did on results day was phone the Clearing number and I was offered a place to study Psychology at Bangor, the course of my choice. Before applying through Clearing to Bangor, I was going to be studying at another university, but I am so glad I made the switch to study here instead. Bangor feels more welcoming and everything you need during your studies is right on your doorstep.
Advice to A level students...
No matter what results or grades you may get, there is always a path forward to achieving your goals and dreams.
Student support
There are a wide range of support available from finance to mental health. I found the Student Housing Support Office particularly helpful when looking for a house for my second year. They helped me with contracts and with what my rights were as a tenant.
Clubs and societies
I was part of the dodgeball club in my first year, mainly attending social events which they organised. I am also part of the Psychology Society and I have attended academic talks that they organise with guest speakers. Furthermore, I have attended talks organised by the Medical Science Society about nuclear medicine and other contemporary topics in healthcare. This year I鈥檝e been supporting the lacrosse team as well.
Socialising
I enjoy study groups in the library with my friends and I also enjoy attending social events organised by the various clubs and societies I am a member of.
Halls
I lived in halls for my first year of study. It was a brilliant opportunity to meet new people and friends. The friends I met in halls in first year are the friends I now live with in private accommodation in my second year of study.
Best thing about Bangor
Bangor is a small, cosmopolitan city with many different types of people living and working here. Everyone knows someone and there is a feeling of great social cohesion amongst students.
