Appointment of new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Leadership)
Following approval by the University Council (Monday, 25th November), the Vice-Chancellor Professor Edmund Burke is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Andrew Edwards as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Leadership). Andrew will commence this role immediately.聽
Andrew has made significant contributions to the University over his career. He began as an academic in the School of History before taking on leadership roles such as co-director of the Welsh Institute for Social and Cultural Affairs (WISCA) and Director of Teaching and Learning for the College of Arts and Humanities. In 2012, he was appointed Dean of Arts and Humanities, a remit which expanded to include Business in 2017.聽
In 2020, Andrew assumed the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor, overseeing Welsh Language, Civic Engagement, Strategic Partnerships and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. In this capacity, he has demonstrated an exceptional ability to manage diverse and complex portfolios, serving as a positive ambassador for the University both domestically and internationally.聽

Beginning his career in the School of History, he has steadily taken on leadership roles with increasing breadth and responsibility, demonstrating his dedication to advancing the University鈥檚 mission. As previously communicated, the departure of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) prompted a strategic review of the role. It was agreed to redefine the portfolio, entrusting the responsibilities to the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oliver Turnbull, who has now assumed the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement). 聽
In light of these appointments, Professor Enlli Thomas, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Science will take over responsibility for the Welsh Language, Professor Morag McDonald, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of College of Science and Engineering, will take over responsibility for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, and Gwenan Hine, University Secretary will take over responsibility for Civic Engagement and Strategic Partnerships. 聽
With these strategic internal appointments, the University continues to strengthen its leadership team, ensuring it is well-positioned to navigate an increasingly competitive global education landscape.聽
