Mother and Daughter Graduate Together!
This year’s graduation was a momentous occasion for all of our graduates, and was particularly significant to a mother and daughter who graduated together, in spite of many challenges and difficult times!
Michaela Goodier and her daughter, Siobhan, graduated with an LLB honours in Law & Criminology on the 13th of July in this summer’s graduation ceremonies. Both had returned to education after very trying personal experiences over the past few years between health, security and employment. However, following a very challenging period, Michaela and Siobhan decided that they would take things in their stride and undertake a degree in Law and Criminology at Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ.Ìý
By reflecting on her and Siobhan’s fantastic achievement, Michaela had this to say:
‘Going to Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ had always been on my Bucket-List, as a to-do list, and a goal that needed ticking off. Law and Criminology echoed through the veins of my company, which involved a high level of security within the private industry, securing huge contracts and blue-chip companies across UK and Europe. I worked with the Chief Trainer of the RAVC (Royal Army Veterinary Corps), Melton Molbry, for 8 years, which led me to setting up my own private corporate security company (Deacon Canines Ltd), with the procurement of highly working dogs for the sole use of explosives and pyrotechnics within the dog world; entwined with working alongside other private companies within the sector, especially the counterterrorism units.
‘The pandemic saw an end to travelling and training, which affected the whole of the UK, which, under the Covid-19 law, put a lot of companies on hold, and some out of business for the foreseeable future. So I hung my boots up, and was asked to be a commander on the Mobile Testing Units for Covid-19 testing sites.’
During which time, Michaela started her studies at Bangor alongside her daughter, Siobhan, who too had experienced difficult experiences: ‘I decided to enrol in Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ (the best uni in Wales) – I can see the university from my living room! And I convinced Siobhan to do it with me.’

And both have succeeded greatly in their studies. Having become Bangor graduates, Michaela and Siobhan hope to pursue a career in the field of law and criminology.
The entire School of History, Law and Social Sciences wish both Michaela and Siobhan all the best in their future.
A huge congratulations!
