When Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ stages its next concert at the Prichard-Jones Hall on Saturday 2 April, it will be a celebration of the power of music in more than one way.
Bringing together some of North Wales’ most talented rising stars, together with a local choir and the University’s symphony orchestra and chorus, the evening will mark a centenary of music at the University whilst also paying tribute to the commitment of the University’s musicians and choristers throughout the pandemic.
As Gwyn L Williams, the University’s Director of Music explains, “We wanted to put something really special together to mark the centenary, something that reflected who we are here at Bangor.
“A centenary only comes around once, but as everyone knows it’s been a tough time to try and get everyone together to practice! As a University, we’ve done our very best to press ahead with planned practices and our schedule of events to celebrate the centenary and showcase the breadth of the musical offering at Bangor.
“At the moment, we’re working hard on the huge and excellent Mass in C minor by Mozart for chorus and orchestra with four wonderful soloists in preparation for our April Centenary Celebration Concert. To see the energy and effort everyone is putting in is remarkable. It shows that there is real hope that things can and will recover, with Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ leading the way, and music in the air!â€
Performing on the evening will be Soprano Llio Evans from Anglesey, who trained with Denis O’Neil and will make her Opera Holland Park debut in 2022 as Josephine in HMS Pinafore, Mezzo-Soprano Angharad Lyddon who represented Wales at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, Welsh tenor Huw Ynyr, who completed his M.A. in Opera Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama after graduating from the M.Mus Performance course at Bangor, and Bryn Roberts, also an alumnus of Bangor who enjoyed singing whilst studying Mathematics and now sings with local choir Cantorion Menai, who will join the University’s own Symphony Orchestra and Choir on the evening.
