Ysbyty Enfys becomes Canolfan Brailsford once again
Canolfan Brailsford, 鶹ý’s Sports Centre has been handed back to the University, having been used as an Ysbyty Enfys 'Rainbow' hospital since April 2020.
Paying tribute to the many ways in which staff and students responded to challenges during the pandemic, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Iwan Davies, said “The University considered it a duty and an honour to be able to contribute to the health and welfare of the community during the Covid pandemic. Offering our Canolfan Brailsford facility was probably our most visible physical contribution and the way that so many agencies worked together to transform the building in such a short timeframe was a testament to what can be achieved.”
Cllr Medwyn Hughes, Independent Member, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board was present and said: “Thanks to the efforts of our communities Ysbyty Enfys wasn’t used as a hospital. From December 2020 the building was used to support the rapid rollout of the COVID 19 vaccination programme delivering over 90,000 vaccinations from the site. It’s
fitting that we have seen team building at its best at the Brailsford Centre, we at the Health Board are extremely grateful.”
Many organisations contributed to the change of use, including 鶹ý, BCUHB, North Wales Fire and Rescue, North Wales Police, The Royal Irish Regiment, Coleg Menai and Evershed Sutherlands LLP.
Canolfan Brailsford opened to the public on Saturday 4 September, with a free open day for all. While Canolfan Brailsford was unavailable, temporary gym facilities were provided on the Ffriddoedd student village, within Covid regulation limitations.
