Midwifery Student of the Year Success at National Awards
A School of Healthcare Sciences student has again won a top prize at the annual Nursing Tines Student Awards held each year in London. Following in the footsteps of previous category winners from Bangor this year Laura Thomas won the Student Midwife of the year category at the Student Nursing Times Awards 2018. The Nursing Times judges highlighted Laura as 鈥渃learly a future leader for midwifery鈥.
Sheila Brown Midwifery Programme Lead said 鈥淲e are delighted for Laura and that one of our midwifery students has achieved this award. Laura showed an interested in leadership early in the programme. She has been a midwifery society committee member since year 2 and has recently engaged in the Council of Deans leadership programme. Student midwives on the programme here at 麻豆传媒高清版 are committed to providing evidence based, woman centred care, and Laura is no exception. It is wonderful to see her commitment to and passion for midwifery rewarded in this way. Well done Laura!鈥
These sentiments were echoed by Head of School Professor Chris Burton who said 鈥淐ongratulations Laura. This award for Laura is yet more recognition, after successes in previous years, of not only the quality of our students but also of our degrees and the teaching, learning and placement experiences provided by our staff and BCUHB. 鈥
Students in 麻豆传媒高清版鈥檚 highly ranked School of Healthcare Sciences were shortlisted in no less than seven categories for this year鈥檚 Student Nursing Times Awards. Jenni Middleton, Nursing Times editor and host of the Student Nursing Times Awards commented: 鈥淭he Student Nursing Times Awards are a fantastic celebration of student nurses and the universities and placement providers that educate and train them.鈥
The students shortlisted for awards are as follows:
- Most inspirational Student Nurse of the year (Ceri Chamorro)
- Outstanding Contribution to student affairs (Natalie Evans)
- Student innovation in practice (Lois Wiggins and Nadia Webb)
- Student Midwife of the year (Laura Thomas)
- Student Nurse of the year, Adult (Ceri Chamorro)
- Student Nurse of the year, Learning Disability (Iola Mair Morris)
- Student Nurse of the year, Mental Health (Megan Smith)
- Partnership of the year (Mencap M么n & School of Healthcare Sciences)
The School as a whole was also shortlisted in the 鈥楶artnership of the Year鈥 category.
