[0:00] Hi there. I'm Prof Morag McDonald and I’m the University’s Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion.
[0:06]Â One of my key priorities as APVC Diversity & Inclusion is to lead our submission for an Athena Swan Silver award,
[0:11] which we will be submitting in November 2023. Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ joined the Athena Swan Charter in 2011
[0:18] and over the last decade or so we have used the charter as a framework to ensure equality, diversity and inclusion become embedded within our policies,Â
[0:24] practices and culture. Â
[0:28] As well as the University Bronze Award, we have 7 school-level Bronze award with the remaining Schools working towards submission for awards in 2023.
[0:35] We have made a lot of progress over the last decade – in terms of addressing the
[0:38] underrepresentation of women at senior academic grades and in leadership positions at BU;
[0:43] and ensuring that EDI is embedded in our governance and committee structures and in changing the culture on campus.
[0:49]Â We have assembled a group of staff from across the University to help us achieve our Silver award in 2023.Â
[0:55] However, the Athena Swan award is not the goal -
[0:58] we are not applying for these awards in order to just get the badge and tick a box.
[1:02] We are applying for these awards because we are already doing some great work and the awards are aa way of recognising and celebrating that work.Â
[1:11] Over the next few months,
[1:12] you will be hearing more about our work, and we will be asking staff and students to input their views and voices to this important agenda.Â
[1:19] Please join us on our journey to Silver and be very happy to receive any suggestions or recommendations.
[1:24] Do get in touch.
