What is a Staff Wellbeing Coach?

Our Staff Wellbeing Coaches can provide 1-to-1 sessions for any Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ staff member wanting to enhance their health and wellbeing. Wellbeing Coaching provides a structured, supportive environment where staff are encouraged and motivated to consider actions that will improve their health and wellbeing.

20 members of staff from the University, from a range of Colleges and Departments, have completed an accredited programme in Coaching for Wellbeing, delivered by the British School of Coaching. This training means that they have a recognised coaching qualification, relevant insight and tools to support individuals with their wellbeing.Ìý

How does it work?

If you would like to have a coach, click to learn more.Ìý
Once you have signed up to the scheme, you will then meet with your Coach either on teams or in-person, this can be decided between you. You can have up to six sessions (depending on what you feel you need). You’ll be asked some questions at the start about where you would like to see changes to your health and wellbeing, and to identify the steps you might take towards these. Later meetings will provide a point of check-in, a way to look for possible barriers to your success and how to prioritise so that your goals remain realistic.

What kind of health topics can we talk about?

Anything! You might be experiencing stress around finances or feeling at a crossroads in your life – maybe you would like to ensure you are making time for movement or exercise in the working week or are finding socialising difficult since the pandemic. Our coaches will continue to receive training and input on a wide range of subjects, and they have access to a toolkit of resources to support you through the process and access to external sources of advice and guidance, should you wish.Ìý
All our Coaches are approachable, empathetic individuals who are motivated to support and encourage others and to provide a safe and confidential space for you to progress toward greater health, whatever this may look like for you. When you enquire about being paired with a wellbeing coach you will be asked whether you would prefer to work through the medium of Welsh or English.
One staff member who has already taken part in Wellbeing Coaching sessions said:
“Having these sessions helped me see my situation with fresh eyes. My Wellbeing Coach guided me to prioritise, manage and organise my responsibilities in new ways, and gave me the confidence to ask for the changes I needed to improve my Wellbeing – both at work, and at home. The changes I made have had long lasting, positive effects for me.â€
