In 2022 the University held its first development afternoon for staff health and
wellbeing.
Staff were subsequently invited through this bulletin to complete a short survey. A full
evaluation of the feedback received was presented to the University Executive.
You can read the report .
There was a very positive response to the health and wellbeing afternoon from those
who completed the survey, with 86% describing it as somewhat or extremely useful.
While planned activities were on-offer, many colleagues chose to pursue their own
choice of activity for the afternoon. A number of positive responses showed having the
freedom to choose how to spend the time was seen as valuable by many. Detailed
answers showed that social time, movement or exercise of some kind or rest and
relaxation were the most popular activities, for example:
- I went for a jog
- I went for a walk in the mountains on my own, for the first time in years 鈥 this activity was beneficial on many levels
- A long walk along the coast
- Pedicure and foot massage
- I chose to do some gardening and then relaxed in the garden in the quiet
- Took time for reflection 鈥 had some 鈥渕e鈥 time
- Went for a picnic at Treborth and did some photography
- I went on my bike for an 11-mile ride
- I picked my daughter up from after School Club early. A very welcomed treat for both of us
- Reading in an outdoor caf茅 by myself
There were no negative comments from those who fed-back on having taken part, but neutral/negative responses to the survey related to difficulties in making time to take part.
Anna Quinn, Health and Wellbeing Project Manager said, 鈥淲e鈥檙e very grateful to those who took the time to fill in the questionnaire and give us their feedback on the health and wellbeing afternoon. The report offers useful insights which will inform our approach to future events, including the range of activities on offer, how we ensure as many people as possible are aware of them, and how individuals are supported to take part, either on the day or on a date that works around their schedule.鈥
