'Social Policy for Welfare Practice in Wales', published by Venture Press, examines twenty years of the Welsh Assembly, now the Senedd, and reflects on the social policy successes and challenges of the last two decades, critically engaging with the impact of devolution on welfare practice on one of the devolved nations of the UK.
It considers traditional social policy fields such as health and poverty as well as areas of growing importance, including the environment and human rights and provides a rich resource for social welfare practitioners in their training and as they carry out their work in a distinctly Welsh social welfare context.
The Children's Commissioner for Wales, Professor Sally Holland, said of the book:
'It is vital that our students and practitioners in Wales understand and put into practice the policy goals, values and legal basis that is distinct to the Welsh context. This much-needed new edition brings together and analyses the wide-ranging changes that together have built a distinct Welsh approach to our social welfare landscape. I particularly like the attention to the importance of children’s and adults’ human rights in social work and social welfare. Despite the progressive goals of the devolved administration, however, this book will provide an important source for those wishing to analyse how successfully they have made discernible differences to the lives of our citizens'.
