SENRGy student produces Wales Planning Conference report
SENRGy student Abigail Low has recently produced a post-conference synthesis report for the 2012 Wales Planning Conference. The conference was organized by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI); the UK鈥檚 leading planning body for spatial, sustainable and inclusive planning and the largest such organization in Europe.
Abigail will be starting the final year of her BSc Environmental Planning and Management (EPM) degree in September and attended the conference in Cardiff in early June. The conference attracted a record number of delegates and focused on delivering planning locally and the importance of local decision making.
A crucial outcome of any conference is an accurate record of the activities undertaken and the ideas and information presented to delegates. This is where Abigail came to the fore in writing the Workshop Report for Workshop on Transport, one of a number of workshops held during the conference.
Abigail鈥檚 report, 鈥楪ood transport can do great things but can it be delivered through the planning process?鈥� synthesises the viewpoints presented by members of the workshop, particularly regarding approaches to improving the UK鈥檚 transport network. An important issue are the barriers that the planning system may face in trying to deliver a modern transport system.
Dr Amin Kamete, Course Director for the BSc EPM degree commented that 鈥渋t is fantastic to see our students putting themselves forward to take on such responsibilities. Engaging with professional bodies and attending events such as this will be of great benefit to Abigail in both her academic studies and as she moves into post-graduate employment.鈥�
