BSc Geography degree receives accreditation
The School of Environment, Natural Resources and Geography (SENRGY) are pleased to announce that its BSc Geography degree has been accredited by the Committee of Heads of Environmental Sciences (CHES), which is part of the Institution of Environmental Sciences.
In successfully accrediting the BSc Geography degree, SENRGy has demonstrated that the degree provides opportunity for teaching and learning in a variety of practical-, field- and laboratory-based activities and that students undertake both tutor- and student-led research. Furthermore, accreditation of the BSc Geography degree demonstrates that students are able to develop professional practice through their degree studies; including the opportunity to undertake work placements, project planning and management and career planning.
Students enrolling on the accredited course are automatically eligible for Student Membership of the IES. Student Membership brings with it a raft of benefits as well as the opportunity to engage with a leading professional institution. Furthermore, on graduation, students will also automatically qualify to become Associate Members of the IES and will receive a certificate from IES confirming this. Further accreditation from the IES is available to graduates as they progress their careers.
Having received notification of the accreditation Dr Graham Bird, Course Director for BSc Geography, commented that 鈥渨e are delighted to have had the quality of our BSc Geography degree acknowledged through accreditation by the IES. Students studying BSc Geography at Bangor develop both subject knowledge and a range of transferable skills, making them very employable graduates. Furthermore, they study in one of the finest locations in the UK and are able to make the most of this through a wide range of fieldwork activities鈥.
The BSc Geography degree joins a number of other SENRGy degrees that are accredited by IES. For more information on the BSc Geography degree (and others) please see: www.bangor.ac.uk/senrgy.
