PGRs & the PGCert HE - Summary Report by Rosanna Robinson (Programme Director)
For your information, please see attached for the new course handbook and workbooks for stage 1 and 2. All individuals starting on either stage this September will be working to this new programme (unless previously agreed otherwise).
Stage 1 is relevant for many PGRs, providing training which will focus on the practical aspects of teaching such as teaching skills.
The full course to stage 2 will be of value to some, especially those engaged in delivering courses, and will focus on pedagogical research to explore new innovations and further develop teaching practice.
PhD students can choose to complete only the first stage of the PGCert HE and receive the appropriate number of academic credits and gain Associate Fellowship status with the Higher Education Authority (HEA), but not be awarded the PGCert HE.
To complete Stage 1 of the PGCert HE, you will be expected to attend an induction event, engage in at least ten out of fifteen workshops across the academic year, and produce a portfolio evidencing your teaching experiences.
To complete Stage 2 of the PGCert HE, you will be expected to attend an induction event, research and select a pedagogical journal in your own discipline, and produce a paper in the style and format of a submission to this journal.
Those intending to start stage 1 or 2 of the PGCert HE this year must ensure that they are fully registered as students on the relevant modules. If they are not registered then they will not have access to the Blackboard site. If not yet registered, new academics and PhD students should contact Delyth Roberts delyth.roberts@bangor.ac.uk and copy Rosanna Robinson into the email for our records.
For your information, please also be aware of the following induction dates:
- Stage 1: 1pm to 3pm on Wednesday the 20th September (Week 4)
- Stage 2: 1pm to 3pm on Wednesday the 27th September (Week 5)
If unable to attend on the relevant date, please contact Rosanna Robinson (if they have not done so already),
Workshops for this programme will then be scheduled between 1pm and 2.30pm on a Wednesday afternoon only (approximately every two weeks). All those registered on the programme will be given a complete schedule for the entire academic year at the induction.
Please be aware that we are also running a special workshop for teaching advisors from 1pm to 2.30pm on Wednesday the 25th of October (Week 9).
All inductions and workshops will take place in the Wheldon Seminar Room.
Please have a look at the information here.
