Module - Semester 1
20 credits
Module Organiser:

Overview
The lectures will introduce the students to the key characteristics of the medium and present a broad historical overview of its development. Various radio production methods will then be examined, and subsequently different programme genres, with specific examples being studied. The theoretical aspects of the module culminate in a broad conceptual review of the nature of the medium and how this is changing in the digital age. The practical workshops will run concurrently, with the students revising and developing generic production skills at the beginning of the course, before planning, researching and producing their own individual production work. This will be informed by the study of production methods, genres and programmes introduced in the lectures.
Assessment Strategy
Threshold - D: 鈥nowledge of key areas/principles only 鈥eaknesses in understanding of main areas 鈥imited evidence of background study 鈥nswer only poorly focused on question and with some irrelevant material and poor structure 鈥rguments presented but lack coherence 鈥everal factual/computational errors 鈥o original interpretation 鈥nly major links between topics are described 鈥imited problem solving 鈥any weaknesses in presentation and accuracy
Good - C/B: 鈥nowledge of key areas/principles 鈥nderstands main areas 鈥imited evidence of background study 鈥nswer focused on question but also with some irrelevant material and weaknesses in structure 鈥rguments presented but lack coherence 鈥as several factual/computational errors 鈥o original interpretation 鈥nly major links between topics are described 鈥imited problem solving 鈥ome weaknesses in presentation and accuracy
鈥trong knowledge 鈥nderstands most but not all 鈥vidence of background study 鈥ocused answer with good structure 鈥rguments presented coherently 鈥ostly free of factual and computational errors 鈥ome limited original interpretation 鈥ell known links between topics are described 鈥roblems addressed by existing methods/approaches 鈥ood presentation with accurate communication
Excellent - A: 鈥omprehensive knowledge 鈥etailed understanding 鈥xtensive background study 鈥ighly focused answer and well structured 鈥ogically presented and defended arguments 鈥o factual/computational errors 鈥riginal interpretation 鈥ew links between topics are developed 鈥ew approach to a problem 鈥xcellent presentation with very accurate communication
