Overview
This module aims to ease the transition into higher education by providing students with a comprehensive understanding of academic expectations, study techniques, and strategies for effective communication.
Throughout this module, students will gain exposure to a variety of academic skills, such as critical thinking, time management, research, and writing. By developing these skills early in their academic journey, students will be better prepared to meet the challenges of their chosen fields of study and achieve their full potential.
Assessments are designed to evaluate students' understanding and application of the key academic skills introduced throughout the module.
Assessment Strategy
EXCELLENT - Category A (70%-100%). An excellent student should have a thorough factual knowledge across all aspects of the module and be able to detailed examples where appropriate, supported by additional reading and knowledge drawn from other modules. Evidence of critical thinking and wider reading is essential for A+ and A* marks.
GOOD - Category B (60%-69%): A good student should have a thorough factual knowledge across all aspects of the module, and be able to detail examples where appropriate. The work shows a thorough understanding based on the presented material. The argument is logical and well supported.
ANOTHER LEVEL - Category C (50-59%): A student of this level should have a reasonable knowledge of the essential facts and key concepts presented in the module. There may be some lapses in detail and accuracy of ideas. Arguments may not be fully supported.
THRESHOLD - Category D (40-49%): A threshold student should have basic knowledge of the essential facts and key concepts presented in the module. The work incompletely covers the module material and there may be no argument and lack of examples and support.
