At Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ, we are are pleased to offer 3 pathways for Medical And Health Professions Education by Distance Learning:
- Medical and Health Professions Education PGCert (60 credits): Duration 1 year, part-time. This course introduces learners to the theory and practice of medical and health professions education and helps learners to develop skills in looking critically and creatively at their own practice. - Medical and Health Professions Education PGDip (120 credits): Duration 2 years, part-time. This course supports learners to develop their knowledge in medical and health professions education research, in specialist areas such as interprofessional education, professional development, learning technology, and/or leadership.ÌýFind out moreÌýabout the PGCert below.
- Medical and Health Professions Education MA (180 credits): Duration: 3 years part-time. The masters year is focused on a research project of the students’ choice which can be either a dissertation or in-depth review of relevant literature.ÌýFind out more about the MA.
Our new PGCertÌýin Medical and Health Professions Education is a part-time Distance Learning programme.
All content will be delivered online and through distance learning methods.
The PGCert in Medical and Health Professions' Education aims to promote excellence in contemporary medical and health professions education (MHPE) for academics, clinicians, and professional services staff and NHS managers responsible for educating health care professionals from any discipline or level.
The course is practice based and theoretically grounded. It will provide you with the knowledge, skills and competencies relating to MHPE in both the university and clinical context, enabling you to improve your teaching practice and develop a reflective, critical, and theoretical approach to planning, delivering, and evaluating your learners' educational experiences.
The course has been thoughtfully designed as a flexible, interprofessional course to meet the development needs of educators at all stages of their career. The PGCert is part of the masters programme with exit points at Certificate and Diploma levels as well as the full masters.
To acknowledge medical and health professionals’ work and other commitments, this Masters’ programme is designed as a three year, part-time, distance learning programme to provide the most flexibility to combine work and study.
The course combines high quality online interactive workshops with self-directed study, supported by tutorials, individualised feedback on activities and assignments and one-to-one meetings. The programme uses a multi-disciplinary, research-informed approach to teach the modules and requires students to participate in live online sessions and online discussions and activities in their own time.

What does this programme offer?
This PGCert aims to:
- meet local, regional, national and international needs in developing the knowledge, skills and competencies of medical and health professions’ educators Ìýworking in university and healthcare settings
- provide a framework in which educators Ìýcan critically review and apply theoretical perspectives as they develop practical skills as educators
- support participants in systematically and creatively analysing the complexities of medical and health professions’ education; using techniques which build on their own experience; involve active and reflective learning and ensure the integration of contemporary theory and practice
- enable students to gain practical experience of course design, delivery and evaluation.

Entry Requirements
Prospective applicants will:
- typically be qualified healthcare practitioners, academics, clinicians, professional services staff or NHS managers responsible for educating health care professionals from any discipline or level;
- normally hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject (of 2.ii or above), a degree level qualification, or professional qualification supplemented by relevant experience.
- be expected to supply a strong personal statement and reference(s) (academic and/or work related) as part of their application.
Please note: if you do not meet the academic requirements detailed above but have at least 3 years relevant work experience and have evidence of recent study or professional development (to demonstrate an ability to study at level 7) we may consider your application.

- Applicants may be requested to join an online interview with a member of the programme team.
Additional Information:
- For UK applicants: degree/ degree level qualifications will be assessed using the QAA Framework for Higher Education Qualifications and Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ requirements. Professional qualifications will need to be recognised by the appropriate professional regulatory body e.g. GMC; UKCC; HCPC; HCPC; Institute of Administrative Management (IAM). Teaching experience will be assessed based on the supporting statement submitted and, if needed, an online interview. For international applicants' evidence of equivalency with UK degrees and professional qualifications will be needed and will be assessed using Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå°æ’s ‘region specific information.’ Professional qualifications will be assessed using guidance from the relevant UK regulatory bodies. In addition, international students will need to attend an online interview to confirm their eligibility, capability to study on this programme and its relevance to their professional development needs.
- International applicants whose first language is not English or Welsh are normally required to provide evidence of English language proficiency. Minimum English language requirements are IELTS 6.5 (with no element below 6.0), or equivalent.

Graduates from this course will have acquired a broad and relevant set of subject specific and transferable skills with a focus on reflection, critical analysis and academic writing achieved through engagement in discussions and a range of written media and formats.

Completion of the PGCert may enable eligible graduates to independently pay to complete an application for HEA Fellowship directly with AdvanceHE.
