MA Applied Linguistics for TEFL
Year 1 Modules
The student must take 180 credits from
the modules in Year 1. Students who have a BA or BSc in
English Language, Linguistics or a closely related subject
may be eligible to be exempt from taking QXL-4432 and should
take QXL-4933: Advanced Linguistics Research Methods
instead. The choice of which research module is appropriate
should be discussed with their personal tutor.

Dissertation The student must take 60 credits from
the Compulsory Dissertation module options below.
Students must take either QXL-4400 MA/MSc Dissertation or
QCL-4400 Traethawd Hir MA/MSc.
Foundations of Linguistics
This module is compulsory unless a
student has a bachelor's degree in Linguistics or a related
subject. Students with a relevent bachelor's degree must
discuss this with their tutor in Welcome Week, who will
decide on an exemption. If exempted, students take 20
credits of relevant semester 1 modules in the School.
