About This Course
By the end of the workshop, all candidates will have a roadmap to publishing that they can take away and personalise. 听The 5 key areas covered include:
- Exploring different forms of publication: Participants will gain insight into the multifaceted types of publication, including journal papers, blogs, vlogs and self-publication.
- Appreciate the publication process: Participants will gain insights into the various stages of academic or professional publication, including manuscript preparation, submission, peer review and revisions.
- How to meet the specific requirements of reviewers and journals: 听 Participants will gain valuable insight and strategies to maximise success.
- Develop strategies for dealing with peer review feedback: Participants will learn how to interpret and respond to peer review feedback constructively to improve the quality of their manuscripts.
- Gain insights into copyright and open access: Participants will gain an understanding of copyright laws as they pertain to publication, as well as the benefits and challenges of open access publishing models.
In addition, recent publishing successes will be celebrated and championed with some new publishers discussing their journey.
Tutor
Dr Lorelei Jones is a medical anthropologist interested in organisation, knowledge, professions and care practices.
Lorelei鈥檚 research is on the social organisation of health care with areas of expertise in:
- The quality and safety of hospital care
- Medical leadership, innovation and organisational change
- Systems leadership, collaboration and integrated care听
- Policy implementation and evaluation
Lorelei鈥檚 research is multidisciplinary and translational (theory into practice). Working 听within the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to develop healthcare professionals and services in North Wales and contribute to international learning.
Lorelei is a Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an executive member of the Society for Studies in Organising Healthcare, and a member of the Scientific Committee for the international conference on Organisational Behaviour in Health Care as well as a Welsh Crucible Future Research Leaders Fellow.
Lorelei has published in academic journals including BMJ quality and safety, the journal of Health Services research and Policy, and Social Science and Medicine. She has also peer reviewed journal articles and serves on the editorial board of a number of healthcare journals. Lorelei also enjoys writing blogs, recording podcasts, and creating digital content for CPD.听
Lorelei appreciates the difficulties in making the tentative steps in publishing and particularly for those that are unfamiliar or hesitant to do so.听
