Business Law - Core for progression to Law degrees
Providing you with a functional knowledge of the basic rights and liabilities in law affecting modern businesses, this module covers types of business entities, such as partnerships and companies.
Legal Systems of England and Wales - Core for progression to Law degrees
Introducing key features of the legal systems of England and Wales, this module covers its principles and processes. You will learn about the different types and levels of court, including the jury system and the roles of judges, barristers, solicitors and court officials, as well as processes around civil and criminal cases.
Management Studies
In this module, you’ll be introduced to the study of business and management. Learn the different types of businesses and organisations, as well as how to finance a start-up.
Data Analysis
In this module, you will learn the maths skills expected of you at degree level. It covers essential mathematical language, notation, conventions, as well as developing your algebraic skills and introducing you to basic statistical concepts, topics and methods.
Media Studies (News Media) - Core for progression to Media degrees
You will be introduced to key concepts underpinning a range of media activities. It considers the role and impact of the mass media in the UK – both print and digital - in the context of wider society, through a study of the news media.
Media Studies (Film and TV) - Core for progression to Media degrees
This module aims to broaden your knowledge of critical and cultural theory in media. You will develop an understanding of the theoretical aspects of film and TV production, with an emphasis on story-telling.
Psychology 1 (Theory) - Core for progression to Psychology degrees
This module introduces the main theoretical approaches to Psychology and consider its historical development as a field of study; to build awareness of key ideas and concepts; and to focus on the areas of Social, Cognitive and Developmental Psychology.
Introduction to UK Government and Society
This module covers the basics of UK government and society, including democracy, the Crown, government institutions, and parliament. It explores political ideologies and main parties, as well as the UK’s role in global institutions.
Business Functions
This module gives you a basic introduction to business and management. It explores strategic planning, supply chain management and how marketing works in different types of businesses and organisations.
Psychology 2 - Core for progression to Psychology degrees
You will learn about how science is defined, and how this applies to psychology. You will then explore the characteristics of research, including what an experiment is, specific controls that can be used within experiments, ethical considerations, qualitative and quantitative methods, and how to characterise and use different types of data.
