Responsible Banking: Oxymoron or a Contemporary New Age in Banking?
Bangor Business School鈥檚 latest podcast has now been released and is available to listen and share. This month the focus is on Responsible Banking.聽 This might be a concept that raises an eyebrow to those of us who vividly remember the Banking and Financial Crisis of 2008, however, a new dawn is emerging thanks to institutes such as Bangor Business School鈥檚 Institute of European Finance. According to the Chartered Banker institute 鈥渞esponsible banking鈥 refers to the practice of considering the social and environmental impact of banking decisions. Responsible banking promotes ethical and sustainable banking solutions to global challenges such as climate change and financial inequality鈥. This month鈥檚 Penny for your Thoughts podcast joins Ian Roberts, a Lecturer in Sustainable and Ethical Banking at Bangor Business School, to learn about this seeming oxymoron and how he and his colleagues are incorporating the United Nation鈥檚 Principles for Responsible Banking into Higher Education training and development of our future leaders in the banking industry.
Ian is a Lecturer in Sustainable and Ethical Banking at Bangor Business School and research interests include causes of individual and organisational misconduct in UK financial services. He teaches on a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including the prestigious Chartered Banker MBA.
