BBS Lecturer Receives Runner-Up Award for the Best Paper in the OB Division Academy of Management Annual Meeting
In August 2024, the Academy of Management (AoM) Annual Meeting, the world's largest gathering of management and organizational scholars, took place in Chicago, IL, USA. The conference, themed "Innovating for Future," offered a dynamic platform for groundbreaking research, including a diverse array of meetings, workshops, consortiums, and social events across various management disciplines.
Junyu Zhou, Lecturer in Management at Bangor Business School (BBS), had the honour of representing BBS at this prestigious event. She presented her research paper titled "Empowering Middle Managers for Innovation and Performance," co-authored with Dr. Boyka Simeonova and Prof. Mathew Hughes from the University of Leicester. The paper, which explores the pivotal role of middle managers in driving innovation and organizational performance, garnered attention within the Organisational Behavior (OB) division and was shortlisted as a finalist for the "Best Paper with Entrepreneurship Implications Award."
In a competitive field with over 1,000 submissions to the OB division, Junyu's research stood out, ultimately securing the runner-up position for this award. This achievement underscores the real-world relevance of her work, particularly for businesses aiming to leverage managerial innovation to enhance performance.
The AoM Annual Meeting also provided a valuable opportunity for networking and intellectual exchanges. Junyu engaged with scholars and practitioners from around the globe, exchanging insights and exploring potential future collaborations.
