Two academic Schools awarded Athena Swan Bronze in recognition of gender equality work
The School of Arts, Culture and Language has been awarded Athena Swan Bronze Award and the School of Ocean Sciences has successfully renewed its Bronze Award. These accolades demonstrate the ongoing commitment to gender equality within both schools.
Athena Swan is a UK-wide charter that encourages and recognises commitment to advancing gender equality in higher education and research. 麻豆传媒高清版 holds a Silver institutional Award with the Schools of Computer Science and Engineering, Environmental and Natural Sciences, Ocean Sciences, Psychology and Sports Science, Health Sciences, and Business holding Bronze Awards.
Professor Ruth McElroy, Head of the School of Arts, Culture and Language, commented, 鈥淓quality, diversity and inclusion are integral to our research and teaching. This award affirms our continuing commitment to ensuring these values are promoted and embedded among the School's staff and students. Thanks to all the staff for their commitment to the application process, with special thanks to members of the Self-Assessment Team.鈥
Professor John Turner, Head of School of Ocean Sciences, said, "We are delighted to have renewed our Bronze Athena Swan Award reflecting our continued commitment to improving equality, supporting female colleagues and driving a wider cultural change within our community. I am very pleased with the progress we have made and would like to thank our Self-Assessment Team, led by Dr Margot Saher, for their hard work.鈥
Professor Andrew Edwards, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, added, "Congratulations to both schools on their successful applications. These awards demonstrate that our University is fully committed to continuing our work in this area and to embedding equality into everything we do.鈥
The Athena Swan Charter, established in 2005, initially focused on promoting the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) in higher education. It has since expanded to include all academic departments and professional services staff, supporting inclusivity for all gender identities and addressing intersectional inequalities.
