Midwives strive to optimiseÌýmaternal and newborn health, physiological birth and the overall birth experience for women, their partners and their families. Midwives work in health care practice environments and in health education, research and management, to support the provision of quality care for women and their partners before, during and after the birth of their baby. Contemporary midwifery practice in the UK is underpinned by national and international research evidence.Ìý

Midwives work autonomously within midwifery led care environments including the community, at home births, birth centres and alongside midwifery led units (situated beside larger maternity units within hospital settings). Midwives also coordinate care for women and their newborns requiring additional advice and care from the multidisciplinary team. Team working is a crucial aspect of modern healthcare. Midwives work closely with other professionals including consultant and other specialist midwives, obstetricians, general practitioners (GPs), nurses, mental health workers, physiotherapists, dieticians, neonatologists, health visitors and lactation consultants, to name a few.

Early applications for Midwifery are strongly encouraged as the course usually fills all its places well before the end of the admissions cycle and Bangor can't guarantee to consider any applications submitted after the initial UCAS closing date in January each year.
