Why did you choose Bangor?
I chose Bangor firstly because it was the university that most attracted me in terms of course content. There are many interesting modules that really caught my interest. Also, the location of the city, near the mountains, with its amazing landscapes, and the fact that it is a small city, different from any place I had ever lived in, were important reasons why I chose Bangor.
What’s been the best part of your stay in Bangor?
I think that the best part of my stay in Bangor were the people I met. So many friendly people, always willing to help. There was a great support from the International Office and lecturers, who were always available if I needed any assistance. I made many friends there, including Brazilians, British and people from others parts of the world.
What do you think of Wales and the UK?
I think Wales is a great place to live. It is such a beautiful place with a great culture, amazing landscapes and friendly people.
How do you think you’ll benefit from participating in the SwB programme?
Participating in the Science Without Borders programme was a great experience to me. I have grown a lot, not only professionally, but also personally. Being away from home, having to speak a different language and having the chance to travel and see different places and different cultures was a great experience. I have learned things that I probably wouldn’t have learnt in my university back in Brazil. I had a great placement experience and my English has improved a lot. I have become a lot more independent and made great friends.
Where have you gone on placement and what did you do/are you doing there?
I went on placement in the National Trust, working with renewable energy. I participated in the development of projects for the installation of renewable sources of energy such as solar photovoltaic panels, biomass boilers and hydro power.
What will you remember the most about your time in Bangor?
The amazing landscapes!
