Fru Parsons - MSc Conservation and Land Management
Fru Parsons - MSc Conservation and Land Management -Graduated 2010
Now works as: Environmental Officer
Now works for: a Mining Company
What can I say about the MSc Conservation and Land Management at Bangor? Firstly, the class size is small, with every lecture being more of a discussion group with lecturers. Secondly, the number of presentations that are required (although daunting at first) is outstanding, which helps develop invaluable public speaking and presentation skills. The content of the lectures is high quality, with great thought put into the practical use in the real world.
I came straight out of Bangor and was fortunate to secure a job as the Graduate Environmental Officer at a mining company in Australia. Within a week I was acting as sole Environmental Officer for the mining company.
The skills I learnt at Bangor turned out to be a lifesaver. Although the course wasn鈥檛 aimed at mining, the baseline knowledge and skills involved in overall land management, combined with the ability to write management plans and reports allowed me to succeed.
Development of social skills and enthusiasm, which are just as important as academic knowledge, were encouraged at Bangor. My boss told me that above all else he looks for enthusiasm when recruiting- and you won鈥檛 be able to portray this without good social skills.
